John Monds

Very few radio shows are popular enough to be on the air for 38 years. But John Blake’s is. Since Howard University Radio came on the air 38 years ago, John Blake has been sharing The Caribbean Experience with his listeners. The show continues to attract a Caribbean and non-Caribbean audience, bridging cultures and generations through music, news, interviews and other special features. Born Ruthven John Blake in the Caribbean nation of Trinidad and Tobago, he grew up, attended school and started a job with the government in his home country. In 1970, John migrated to the U.S., switched to a career in broadcasting, took to the airwaves and hasn’t looked back.

John Monds was introduced to radio during his sophomore year at Clinton High School in Clinton, N.C. By senior year, he hosted his own daily afternoon show at the local station. In the last 40 years, John has hosted local shows in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Houston, Cincinnati, and Baltimore. John was also heard nationally in syndication as host of Reflections, Kickin’ It at Christmas, USA Music Magazine, and Love and B with John Monds.
John was awarded Music Director of the year for Gavin and Billboard plus several nominations for Air personality of the year from Radio and Records.
John is set to rejoin WHUR and looks forward to returning and being a part of the legendary station. “I get to help Sean Plater and Al Payne take WHUR back to #1 and I’m so excited to be back and a part of the team”
