It has been announced that Aaliyah will be the next star to be “immortalized in wax” at Madame Tussauds in Las Vegas. The news comes after fans speculated for a while why she hadn’t received one already.

The late R&B singer will have her statue unveiled later this month. The news was announced on the singer’s instagram account, which is managed by representatives of the Haughton Estate.

The caption reads, “We are proud to announce that Aaliyah will be the next iconic star immortalized in wax at Madame Tussauds Las Vegas.”

Fans will also get the opportunity to attend the VIP unveiling party. As the Instagram caption stated, “Show us your best #Aaliyah inspired look and be one of 10 lucky fans to win an invite to the VIP figure launch party at #TussaudsVegas! Download the @AaliyahApp and share your photo or video using #ShowUsYourAaliyah on the app and Instagram to be entered to win.”

Aaliyah Haughton tragically passed away in a plane crash on August 25, 2001. She was leaving the set of a video shoot for her song Rock the Boat in the Bahamas. Her legacy lives on through her music and through honors such as her wax figure that will soon be unveiled. Aaliyah achieved 5 top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 including her number 1 hit, Try Again. Aaliyah’s self-titled album, “Aaliyah” went number 1 in the U.S. on Sep. 15, 2001, following her passing.

Aaliyah will join artists such as Whitney Houston, Beyoncé and Michael Jackson who have wax figures at Madame Tussauds in Vegas.
