A couple of weeks ago it came to my attention that a quote of mine was featured in the new Smithsonian Museum of African American History and Culture. I didn’t believe it at first but then I was sent a picture and I became elated!

Immediately I went on the hunt to find out all the information I could. Who chose it? When could I see it? Where in the museum is it? I got all the answers very quickly due to the help of so many.

Along with several of my colleagues from WHUR, I journeyed to the museum’s third floor, entered the Sports Gallery and there in the midst of greats like Jesse Owens, Muhammad Ali, Venus and Serena Williams…was my quote paying homage to HBCUs and specifically my alma mater, Spelman College.

Knowing that a quote of mine will live in this museum for decades to come, is the highest honor of my life and I look forward to sharing it with the world.

Special thanks to Dr. Damion Thomas, curator of the Sports Gallery, who chose my quote and saw value in my words.
