Howard University Showtime Marching Band Set to Perform At Skins Game

Washington, D.C. (October 19, 2018) –The Howard University “Showtime Marching Band,” under the direction of John Newson, is no stranger to the spotlight.  The band is one of the best known marching bands in the country.  The band is a regular at many NFL football game half-time shows, including post season championship games, as well as the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.  This Sunday, the “Showtime Marching Band” will be front and center at one of the biggest NFL rivalries in the league.

Washington will be taking on Dallas and the stakes are high.  While reluctant to speak about who’s likely to win the game between the Skins and the Cowboys, band members are quick to jump at a chance to say they will be stealing the show, after all they are the “Showtime Marching Band.”

WHUR Digital Reporter Candice Adkins talks with band member Christian Adkins who is a senior majoring in Music Education and Band Director John Newson who is set to retire in June after leading the band for over 32-years.  The “Showtime Marching Band” is also preparing for Howard University Homecoming 2018, set for Saturday, October 27th.  Howard’s Homecoming is known worldwide and is always EPIC!!!
