DC Mayor Names New School’s Chancellor

DC Mayor Muriel Bowser has named Dr. Lewis Ferebee as the new School Chancellor of DC Public Schools.  Ferebee is the Superintendent of the Indianapolis, Indiana Public School system.  He has been there since 2013.  He will have a two-year salary of $280,000 plus bonus incentives.  He begins in the District on January 31st.

Alsobrooks Sworn In As First Woman County Executive in Prince George’s County

(Prince George’s County, MD) — A woman will serve as county executive for Prince George’s County for the first time ever. Angela Alsobrooks was sworn in as Prince George’s county executive this morning. She was sworn in along with eleven members of the Prince George’s County Council. Alsobrooks vowed to bridge divides and boost accountability in schools and elsewhere. She ran unopposed during last month’s elections. Alsobrooks previously served as the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney for eight years.

Hearse Carrying Bush’s Casket Headed To Capitol

(Joint Base Andrews, MD) — A hearse carrying the casket of the late President George H.W. Bush is headed to the U.S. Capitol. A plane carrying the late President and his family arrived at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland this afternoon. Bush’s body will lie in state at the Capitol until Wednesday morning. There will be a state funeral at Washington’s National Cathedral on Wednesday.

Washington To Face Eagles In Key NFC East Test

(Philadelphia, PA) — The Monday Night Football spotlight shines on the NFC East this week as the Washington Redskins face the Philadelphia Eagles. The Redskins are coming off a 31-23 Thanksgiving night loss at Dallas. Washington has dropped two in-a-row and three of its last four games to fall to 6-and-5 overall. Philadelphia beat the Giants 25-22 in Week 12 to end a two-game skid and boost its record to 5-and-6.
