Former Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Arrested

(Fairfax County, VA) — A former Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office deputy is being accused of sexually assaulting a female inmate. Keith Washington was arrested following an investigation into accusations he sexually assaulted the former inmate at the Fairfax County Alternative Incarceration Branch in December 2016 or January 2017. Washington turned himself into police this morning. He’s charged with carnal knowledge of an inmate and sexual battery.

Prince George’s Officer Accused of Rape, Identified

Langley Park, Md. — A Maryland police officer is accused of raping a woman in her car during a traffic stop.
News outlets report Prince George’s County police Officer Ryan Macklin was arrested Monday on charges including first-degree rape. Police Chief Hank Stawinski says the woman was pulled over early one morning last week. Police say the on-duty Macklin is accused of then forcing the woman to perform a sexual act.
Stawinski says there may be more victims. Police spokeswoman Jennifer Donelan says Macklin was suspended within hours of the woman reporting the alleged crime. Macklin has been suspended without pay and relieved of his weapons, police vehicle and credentials. Donelan says police are investigating the allegations with the county state’s attorney’s office.

Video Of St. Louis Man Being Blocked From Loft Getting National Attention

(St. Louis, MO) — Video of a white woman blocking a black man from entering his St. Louis loft last week is receiving national attention. D’Arreion Toles was trying to enter his home in the Elder Shirt Lofts building Friday night when a woman blocked him and asked what unit he lives in. Footage of the confrontation has gone viral and the story has been covered by the New York Times. As a result, the woman was fired from her job on Sunday.

Polio-Like Illness Now Reported In MD

(Baltimore, MD) — State health officials and the CDC are investigating possible cases of a polio-like illness reportedly contracted by four children in Maryland. Acute flaccid myelitis has affected nearly 90 children in more than two dozen states. AFM initially presents like the common cold and spreads through contaminated feces or the lack of hand washing, possibly leading to partial paralysis. The illness comes on suddenly and causes symptoms like dizziness, facial droop and paralysis of the arms or legs if it invades the spinal cord. Experts say the chance of contracting AFM is very rare.
