A Near Drowning At Six Flags, Ervin Ends Governor Bid, Teen Enters A Local High School With A Loaded Gun

A 14-year-old is in critical condition after nearly drowning at Six Flags America amusement park in Largo today.  Authorities say the incident happened in the park’s wave pool.  Park officials say the teen was treated by park and Prince George’s County Fire Department paramedics before being taken to an area hospital.

Ervin drops out of Maryland Governor’s Race

Valerie Ervin has dropped out of the Maryland governor’s race. In today’s announcement, the former Montgomery County council member also endorsed Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker. The Democrat had been a candidate for Lieutenant Governor, but decided last month to run for governor after her running mate, Kevin Kamentez, died suddenly of a heart attack.

Police arrest 17-year-old for bringing loaded gun into Montgomery County high school

Montgomery County police arrested Elijah Nyamekye, of Silver Spring, for bringing a loaded hand gun into Paint Branch High School.  Officials say on Tuesday, Nyamekye, who is not a student at the school, entered the building by providing a fake name and student identification number.  He then fled, but was later caught by police.   He’s been charged with possession of a stolen handgun, trespassing, and disrupting school activities.  He was released on bond.
