Arrest Made In Shooting Of Teen In Brentwood

An arrest has been made in the shooting of a teenage girl in Northeast DC. Police Chief Peter Newsham says officers arrested 21-year-old Phillip McDaniel this morning. A 17-year-old girl was driving in the 14-hundred block of Saratoga Avenue, NE yesterday when she was struck in the head by a stray bullet. She remains in critical condition, while another man who was also shot is expected to recover. Police are still searching for two additional suspects.

BLM Activists Call Out DC Police

Activists within the Black Lives Matter movement are calling out the DC Police Department. This morning, three members held a news conference focusing on a, quote, “culture of violence” within the department. They are asking DC Mayor Muriel Bowser and Police Chief Peter Newsham to do something about what they consider “aggressive police behavior” towards minorities. The news conference comes a few days after word that charges would not be filed against an officer who fatally shot an unarmed black man last year.

Both National Lottery Jackpots Soar

Sales are brisk across the country as the jackpots for both national lottery games skyrocket. It’s the first time the jackpots for Mega Millions and Powerball have each exceeded 300-million-dollars at the same time. The odds of winning either are astronomical and lottery officials say the odds of winning both are one-in-75 quadrillion. Tonight’s Mega Millions jackpot is an estimated 393-million dollars. Tomorrow’s Powerball jackpot sits at 356-million.

Ravens Roll Against Redskins In Preseason Opener

The Ravens rolled to a 23-3 win over the Redskins in the preseason opener in Baltimore. Kirk Cousins was 1-for-2 for five yards in limited duty for Washington. Dustin Hopkins’ 49-yard field goal was the Skins’ only score.
