Bus Drivers Refuse To Work, Police Target Illegal ATV/Dirt Bike Riding During Labor Day Holiday

X2 Bus Drivers Refuse To Work

Metrobus drivers are refusing to work until improvements are made in driver safety. Operators on the X2 line did not allow any riders on the bus this morning. Metro says commuters should expect significant delays in the area. Last weekend, an X2 driver was doused in a cup of urine by an upset passenger. Opal Brown was arrested for simple assault on Wednesday. The drivers’ union is demanding for increased safety measures against passenger assault.

Police Target Illegal ATV/Dirt Bike Riding During Labor Day Enforcement Operation

Beginning Saturday morning and running through Labor Day, the Prince George’s County Police Department will team up with Maryland State Police to enforce laws regarding illegal ATV and dirt bike use in our county. Riding ATVs and unlicensed dirt bikes on county roadways and highways is illegal.  The PGPD will provide more than 50 officers for this weekend’s operation and the Maryland State Police will dedicate 25 troopers to the effort. Aircraft will also be used during the operation.

Manslaughter Charges Dropped Against Driver

The driver in a Lansdowne collision that killed an infant and left his mother seriously injured is having his charges altered. ABC-7 reports that manslaughter charges against John Miller the Fourth will be dropped due to lack of evidence. Prosecutors say Miller was behind the wheel of a vehicle that crashed into Mindy Schulz and her five-month-old son as they were in a crosswalk in August 2016. Charges of reckless driving and failure to yield still stand.

Harvey Fraud

Authorities are bracing for a wave of fraud and other criminal activity set into motion by Harvey’s punishing rains.  Federal and state officials are warning residents, volunteers and officials in flood zones in Texas and Louisiana they could be targeted by storm-related scams, contract corruption, document fraud, identify theft and other crimes. The easy availability of personal information and documents on the internet has widened criminal activities and potential victims to anywhere in the U.S.
