DC Schools Chancellor Responds To Grade Fixing Allegations

DC Schools Chancellor Antwan Wilson says allegations of grade fixing at a city high school are troubling. Wilson responded today to an investigation that found many Ballou High School students graduated without truly meeting the requirements. The report found that some students with as many as 150 absences still graduated when there are only 180 days in the school year. Flanked by Mayor Muriel Bowser, Wilson said today at a press conference that city officials will be looking into the allegations. Mayor Bowser has ordered the results of a review in the next 45 days.

Matt Lauer, Garrison Keillor Fired

A pair American broadcasters are off the air. NBC canned Matt Lauer for alleged sexual misconduct that stemmed from his stint as host of the 2014 Sochi Olympics. NBC confirmed the alleged behavior continued after the games. Only hours later, Minnesota Public Radio said it was firing Garrison Keillor over allegations of inappropriate behavior. MPR said it was notified of the allegations while Keillor was responsible for the production of “A Prairie Home Companion.”

House Passes Bill On Sexual Harassment

The House is taking action to head-off sexual harassment and misconduct in Congress. A modest bill was passed today that mandates special training for all representatives and staff members. Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan said there must be no tolerance for sexual harassment.

Funeral Services Today For Murdered Officer

A funeral is taking place today for the Baltimore City police officer who was shot and killed while investigating a murder. The service for Detective Sean Suiter is being held at Mount Pleasant Church. A funeral procession will travel from the church to Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens in Timonium. Drivers are being warned of road closures and detours along several major roads including I-95, I-895, the Baltimore beltway and I-83.
