Driver Hits Two Cops In Adams Morgan

Two Virginia men are under arrest after striking two DC Police officers and a traffic employee. Twenty-three-year-old Dwayne Taylor of Prince George and 22-year-old Brandon Figures-Mormon of Disputanta have been charged with illegal firearm possession and assault with intent to kill. The incident occurred last night on 18th Street, NW. Police Chief Peter Newsham says one of the officers is in critical but stable condition. The DDOT employee is in serious condition, while the other officer has been upgraded to fair condition. They are both expected to recover.

Murder Of Teenagers Appears To Have Been Planned Meeting

The shooting that killed two teenagers sitting in a car may have been a planned meeting. ABC-7 reports Shadi Najjar and classmate Artem Ziberov had cash on them when they were shot in what appears to be an ambush. Sources tell News-4 that 23 shots from two guns were fired into the car Monday night in Montgomery Village. No arrests have been made, and no motive has been revealed.

Last Weekend For Free National Mall Parking

It’s the last weekend for free parking on the National Mall. Parking meters are being installed for eleven-hundred spaces on the Mall. Starting Monday, it’ll cost two-dollars an hour to park between the hours of 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. Enforcement officers will be checking for parking receipts every single day of the year, including Sundays and holidays. The goal is to force quick turnover of the limited parking spots, and to encourage visitors to take public transit. The funds will go towards restoration projects on the Mall.

Black Minds Matter

A leading journal of political philosophy took up the Black Lives Matter movement in its June issue without a single contribution from a black academic. And that has triggered an outcry from African-American scholars.  Some say they feel insulted and ignored.  The publication – called the Journal of Political Philosophy – is apologetic over what it concedes was “an especially grave oversight.”  Some intellectuals say the episode highlights a lack of diverse voices in the influential research journals where getting a paper accepted is often vital to getting ahead in the publish-or-perish world of academia.
