Former MD Coach With HIV Accused Of Sexual Assault

Carlos Deangelo Bell, an HIV-positive former Maryland school employee and track coach, has been apprehended due to suspicion of sexually assaulting at least seven teenage boys.

Bell was an instructional assistant at Benjamin Stoddert Middle School. He also served as an indoor track coach at La Plata High School.

Bell was finally arrested after a six-month investigation that started in late 2016. Officials were tipped off about Bell’s behavior with a particular track student. Bell was later discharged from his jobs at both the middle and high school when the investigation began.

There has been quite a bit of evidence brought forth on the behalf of Bell. A probe of Bell’s work laptop proved nothing suspicious. However, the other electronic devices located in his home is what linked him to the production of child pornography.

Troy Berry, County Sheriff stated, “Some of the evidence found included graphic images of Bell sexually assaulting victims. A student’s parent observed suspicious text messages on the child’s phone that were sexual in nature.”

A jury has indicted Bell on several felony charges including child pornography production and misdemeanor charges of second-degree assault. Bell is currently being held without bail and it is very likely for more charges to be filed.

Police claim that all alleged victims are now being tested for HIV. According to officials, none of the tests have come back positive yet. Charles County Public Schools announced that are still “to work with the sheriff’s office and the Charles County State’s Attorney’s Office as they conduct their investigation.”

Maryland detectives are still working diligently to find more victims. Parents with concerns related to case are encouraged to call 1-800-CALL-FBI.
