Howard University Soccer Player Voted Among the Best of the Best

NEW ORLEANS, La. (August 14, 2018) – The Sun Belt Conference (SBC) revealed its 2018 preseason poll and honors where Howard University junior goalkeeper Carlos Caro (Silver Spring, Md.) was recognized among the league’s best. The announcement came Tuesday afternoon.

All votes were submitted by the Sun Belt’s five men’s soccer head coaches.

“I am happy to see Carlos [Caro] acknowledged by the coaches throughout the Sun Belt,” said Howard Men’s Soccer Head Coach Phillip Gyau. “I truly believe he’s one of the best goalies in the country.”

Last season, the Maryland native was selected to the 2017 SBC All-Tournament Team after guiding the Bison to the conference semifinals. Caro finished his sophomore campaign second in the league with 66 total saves and 4.12 saves per match while registering two shutouts.

Georgia State’s Hannes Burmeister was picked 2018 SBC Men’s Soccer Coaches’ Preseason Offensive Player of the Year whereas Coastal Carolina’s Kervin Fadel took home 2018 SBC Men’s Soccer Coaches’ Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.

Furthermore, the Bison were projected to finish fifth in the conference. Sun Belt reigning champions Coastal Carolina was predicted to win the league title for a third consecutive year.
