Blizzard Watch Goes Into Effect Friday

Forecasters are now using the term “blizzard” for the impending winter storm.  The National Weather Service says a blizzard watch will go into effect for the greater DC area on Friday afternoon.  Not only will there be a major snow storm, but strong winds will make conditions worse, especially driving conditions.  Forecasters are also calling for an inch or so of snowfall tonight, a warm up for the big event on Friday.

Police To Canvass Area Of Deadly Shooting

Prince George’s County police officers will canvass an area of Camp Springs where there was a deadly shooting.  Officers will be in the 43-hundred block of West Village Avenue beginning at 7:00 this evening to hand out Crime Solvers flyers and look for leads in the killing of 29-year-old Franklin Young Jr.  Police don’t think the killing at the victim’s apartment was a random incident.  A reward of up to 25-thousand-dollars is being offered in the case.

Emanuel Wants All Gun Sales Video Recorded

Mayor Emanuel told an audience of fellow mayors in Washington today that mandatory video recording of all gun sales would help to stop the flow of illegal guns into the city.  At the winter meeting of the U.S. Conference of Mayors, Emanuel sat on a panel and said that in addition to President Obama’s executive order on gun sales, he’d like to see a state law requiring that all gun sales be recorded on video, something the city already requires.  Before Emanuel’s appearance, a Black Lives Matter protester stood in front of the speaker’s podium holding a sign referring to the police shooting of Laquan McDonald and calling for Emanuel to resign.

Astronomers Find Possible 9th Planet

Scientists believe there may be a ninth planet in our solar system.  Astronomers with the California Institute of Technology say there’s evidence of an object orbiting the sun beyond Neptune.  Researchers discovered the possible planet through mathematical modeling and computer simulations, but so far it hasn’t been observed directly.  If it actually exists, what researchers have dubbed “Planet Nine” would be ten times bigger than Earth.
