Jury Selection Underway In First Baltimore Cop Trial

Jury selection is underway in the first trial of the six Baltimore police officers charged in the death of Freddie Gray.  Prosecutors and defense attorneys have begun selecting the jury that will hear the case against Officer William Porter.  Porter faces a number of charges in Gray’s death including involuntary manslaughter.  The 25-year-old Gray died from injuries he suffered after police arrested him last April.  Riots broke out after Gray’s death.

Chicago Officer Gets 1.5 Million Dollar Bond

The white Chicago police officer accused of shooting a black teen 16 times and killing him is having his bond set at one-and-a-half-million-dollars.  A group of protesters in the Chicago courtroom cried out today in disapproval as a judge announced the bond for Officer Jason Van Dyke.  The judge set the bond after he viewed the dash cam video footage of the shooting that killed Laquan McDonald in October of 2014.  Van Dyke is charged with murder and will be back in court on December 18th.

Accused Shooter Due In Court Today

The alleged shooter at a Planned Parenthood facility in Colorado Springs is due in court this afternoon. Robert Lewis Dear will appear before the judge via video link.  He’s accused of shooting and killing three people in the assault, including a police officer.  An Iraq War veteran and a mother of two were also killed.  Nine others were wounded.  Dear reportedly mentioned

UIC Student Under Arrest For U. Of Chicago Threat

A person suspected of threatening gun violence on the University of Chicago campus is under arrest.  The online threat mentioned violence this morning at the school’s campus quad at 10 a.m.  As a result, Monday’s classes and campus activities were canceled.  Authorities say an individual is in federal custody and that charges are pending.  The person in custody is a University of Illinois-Chicago off-campus student.
