Several school systems decide to close because of the snow

Prince George’s, Montgomery, Frederick, MD, Faquier and Frederick, county schools in Virginia schools are closed today. On a two hour delay are Alexandria, Stafford and Manassas County schools in Virginia.

Weather Advisory issued for WHUR listeners

The entire WHUR area is under a “Winter Weather Advisory” until 1pm. We are expecting 1 to 2 inches of snow. The roads are very slick especially on bridges, exit ramps and overpasses. Several accidents have been reported this morning.

Two manholes exploded in DC, DDOT investigates

DC Department of Transportation and Fire Officials are on the scene of two separate manholes that exploded this morning on 18th Street and New Hampshire Avenue in NW. Surprisingly, no one was injured. The intersection is closed to traffic at this time.

The GOP takes control of Congress today

The 114th Congress gets sworn in this morning and the newly Republican controlled Congress plans to get to work right away on several issues of concern to them. Those issues are immigration, jobs, Obamacare and The Keystone pipeline, to name a few. We will also find out if two Republican challenges to John Boehner’s Speaker of the House seat prevail.

Former VA Governor is sentenced today for his federal corruption conviction

It is judgement day for former Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell on federal corruption charges. The prosecution is pushing for 10 to 12 years. The defense however says it should be more like 3 years and they are hoping he is given three thousand hours of community service instead of jail time, because he posses no threat to society. McDonnell’s wife, Maureen is due to be sentenced at the end of February.

Barry’s son decided to run for his father’s Ward 8 seat

The son of the late Marion Barry has filled out the paperwork to run for his father’s Ward 8 City Council Seat. Christopher Barry will now have until January 28th to collect 500 valid signatures to be added to the ever growing list of candidates vying for the coveted city council position.

For a time, Taylor even spoke with a British accent. Well now she resides in the DC area and for the past three years has worked as the news anchor for The Steve Harvey Morning Show on WHUR. Recently, Taylor has adopted the Washington Redskins as her most loved pro sports team.
