Another “Heat Advisory” is issued for our area…

At Noon a “Heat Advisory” will take effect in the entire WHUR listening area until 8 tonight. It will feel like 105 to 110 this afternoon. Limit outdoor exposure and if you have to go out wear light colored clothing and drink lots of water.

Rescue efforts turn to recovery efforts in Silver Spring apartment explosion…

Montgomery county first responder’s are no longer looking for survivors. Two bodies have been pulled from the debris at the Silver Spring apartment complex that exploded this week. It’s unclear how many people are still unaccounted for. The cause remains under investigation but some residents believe natural gas could be to blame.

Two African American women strike goal in Rio…

In Rio, Simone Manuel has made history. She is the first African American woman to win an individual swim medal. The 20 year old from Houston, TX said she struggled with the pressure of being one of only a very few black American swimmer. She also said that she wants to be an inspiration to other & looks forward to the day “when it is not Simone the black swimmer”. African American Simone Biles won gold in all around gymnastics and Md swimmer Michael Phelps won his 22nd gold.

Growing up in a military family, Taylor Thomas lived overseas until she was 16 years old. She called places such as Great Britain and the Philippines home. For a time, Taylor even spoke with a British accent. Well now she resides in the DC area and for the past three years has worked as the news anchor for The Steve Harvey Morning Show on WHUR. Recently, Taylor has adopted the Washington Redskins as her most loved pro sports team.
