A DC Police Officer is on administrative leave following the weekend shooting of a woman. Investigators say 22 year old Renita Nettles was holding a knife and refusing to put it down. She was shot in the shoulder. Nettles faces assault charges in the incident & arson for a fire at her mothers apartment on Clay Terrace in N.E..

Ward 3 Council Member holds a public safety meeting with Chief of Police…

A community meeting on the increasing number of armed robberies in Ward 3 is set for 6 tonight at Forest Hill Assisted Living Center. Tonight’s meeting is being hosted by Council Member Mary Cheh. Police Chief Cathy Lanier will be on hand for questions.

Ferguson, MO Police shoot a suspect during a Michael Brown Anniversary rally…

Ferguson, Missouri is back in the spotlight. A man was shot by police during a rally marking the one year anniversary of the police shooting death of Michael Brown. The suspect reportedly fired on an unmarked police van with four police officers inside, they returned fire critically injuring the man. Brown’s father says he still struggling to deal with his loss. The gunfire last night prompted the city to call in a S.W.A.T. team and armored police trucks. Smoke canisters were also used on the crowd.

Laurel Hospital is closing, leaders hold a public meeting about it this afternoon…

The Laurel Regional Hospital is closing and the owners want to build a $24 million dollar outpatient center. This afternoon the Mayor of Laurel is holding a 4:30 public meeting about the plans and other possible options, today at Laurel Municipal Center.
