President Obama speaks out after Cuba releases an American prisoner

President Obama is addressing the American public this hour about the release of American contractor Alan Gross. Gross who is from Potomac, Maryland touched down at Andrews Air Force Base earlier this hour. He is due to speak to the public at 1:30. Gross’ release was apart of a prisoner swap. The U.S. gave up 3 Cuban’s who were being kept in a U.S. prison. President Obama says the U.S. will eventually plan to re establish an embassy in Havana.

DC leaders say “Yes” to soccer stadium

The DC City Council has voted to move forward with a proposal to build the a new DC United Soccer Stadium at Buzzard’s Point in S.W.. The city will spend about $150 million dollars to acquire the land and the team will spend about the same to build the 20,000 seat stadium.

It’s a new day for students eager to learn in S.E. DC

A ribbon cutting ceremony took place this morning with DC Mayor Vincent Gray, Chancellor Kia Henderson and others at the newly constructed Ballou High School in S.E. DC. Phase one features the 2 story building complete with hi tech audio systems in the classrooms, 2 and 3D digital studios, a TV studio, dance and drama rooms and even a culinary arts cooking kitchen. Phase two will include the schools football stadium. Tonight at 7 Mayor Gray will deliver his farewell address at Dunbar Senior High School.

DC could host the 20-24 Summer Olympics

The U.S. 20254 Summer Olympic Committee has announced that the event will be held in a U.S. city. The news follows yesterday’s DC Delegation lead by Mayor Elect Muriel Bowser, who pitched by DC should be considered. A final decision on which city will host it will be made in late January or early February.
