Classes resume at one area school following the smell of gas…

Classes are back in session at Hammond Middle School in Alexandria–this after the order of gas was detected. Fire crews responded and found no major problems. There were no reports of any children or adults becoming sick.

A child continues to fight for his life this morning at an area DC hospital. The 8 year old was caught in the middle of a gun battle over the weekend at the Mayfair Mansion Apartments in N.E. over the weekend. He is one of 9 people shot in separate incidents. One male died.

Prince George’s County starts registration for housing vouchers …

Low income Prince George’s County can now apply on line only for housing vouchers. There are only 450 available. It’s estimated 25,000 people will apply. It’s been 7 years since the last open enrollment.

Va. sends special unit to help flood ravaged South Carolina…

Fairfax County’s elite Task Force 1 is en route to flood ravaged South Carolina. The team is expected to arrive around 2 this afternoon and remain for 10 days, helping the state deal with the devastation. 7 people are confirmed dead. Hundreds have been saved via water rescue.
