DC’s New Mayor holds a press conference on statehood

DC New Mayor Muriel Bowser, DC Delegate Eleanor Holmes-Norton and other city leaders are on Capitol Hill this hour. They holding a press conference calling on Congress to restore the Districts voting rights on the House floor.  Leaders used this mornings press conference to list why the District should become its own state and not have to rely on congressional approval to spend its own money.

Former Washington NFL Star, Fred Smoot answers to domestic violence charges

Former Washington NFL player Fred Smoot is in a Loudoun County courtroom answering to domestic abuse charges. In November, his girlfriend called police after she said he hit her. Valerie Jackson also posted on instagram pictures of the bathroom door that he reportedly smashed trying to get to her and images of the bruises and marks, she says he put on her. The former star cornerback denies the claims and says he has never and would never hit a woman.

Jury selection begins in Boston Marathon Bombing trail

Security is tight at today for the start of jury selection in the Boston Marathon Bombing trail. In fact, an armed U.S. Coast Guard ship is patrolling the waterways near the courthouse. Attorney’s for both sides will have to agree on 12 jurors and 6 alternates out of a pool of 12 hundred. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev faces the death penalty if he is found guilty of killing 3 people and injuring more than 200 others.

U of MD is placed on alert following an off campus home invasion

Police in Prince George’s County are searching for three men involved in a home invasion in College Park. The incident happened last night in a home along Potomac Avenue near The University of Maryland. At least one of the men were armed. A male victim was robbed of his personal belonging. Thankfully he was not injured.

ESPN Anchor dies after long fight with cancer

After an 8 year battle with Cancer, ESPN Anchor Stewart Scott lost his fight over the weekend. Scott leaves behind two children, two girls ages 15 and 19.

The Washington Wizards play tonight …on the road

The Wizards remain on the road tonight –they are in New Orleans taking on the Pelicans. On Wednesday the Wizards return home to host the Knicks.

Recently, Taylor has adopted the Washington Redskins as her most loved pro sports team.
