Mayor Bowser discusses the cities plan for inclement weather

Right now DC Mayor Muriel Bowser is holding a
press conference at the Reeves Center in NW
discussing the city’s plan for inclement weather.

Fairfax County School leaders apologize for starting classes on time

It was a ruff start for commuters and thousands
of school kids as well, especially in Virgina. The slick
roads caused several buses in Northern Virginia to
become stuck with kids on them. No injuries have
been reported. In fact, Fairfax County School
leaders have issued an apology for deciding to
open schools on time. The message on their
Facebook page states that they were working
with state agencies and the snow was worse than
expected but the kids are safe in class & will be
dismissed on time this afternoon. The entire WHUR
listening area meanwhile remains under a
“Winter Weather Advisory” until 1pm.

A judge makes a surprise change in favor of  Va Governor Bob McDonnell

In a surprise move the judge in the federal corruption sentencing trial of former Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell, he has decided to alter the sentencing guidelines. He now faces between 6 and 8 years in prison instead of the orginial 10 to 12 years. Now, McDonnell’s attorney’s are still hoping he will only have to serve six thousans hours of community service over a three year period. It’s possible says lawyer Chuck James.  McDonnell’s wife, Maureen will not be sentenced until next month.

A new Congress is being sworn in today

The 114Th Congress has been sworn. Now both houses are
controlled by the GOP. On their agenda dealing
with immigration, jobs, the Keystone Pipeline and
Obamacare. GOP House Speaker John Boenher
meanwhile will be fighting to keep his position —
This as two Republicans with tea party supporters
have decided to challenge him & run for the
position as well.

Barry’s son files to fill his father’s Ward 8 City Council Seat

Christopher Barry, the son of the late Ward 8
Council Member Marion Barry has decided to run
for his father’s seat. He submitted the required
paperwork yesterday. The 34 year old has until January
28th to collect 500 valid signatures to be added to the long list of
candidates. The special election is April 28th.
