The “Winter Weather Advisory” continues

The snow is falling here in the District and to the North and West of us. The entire WHUR listening area remains under a “Winter Weather Advisory” until 6 tonight. The rush hour drive home could be a problem for drivers today.

Maryland swears in their 62nd Governor

At Noon, Larry Hogan was sworn in as Maryland’s 62nd Governor. He was introduced by New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. At 1:30 there will be a public receiving line. Tonight’s ticketed Inaugural Gala will be held at Baltimore Convention Center.

Prince George’s County State’s Attorney celebrates a drop in truancy among students

Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Angela Alsobrooks, school leaders from Samuel Massie and Andrew Jackson Academy’s will gather this afternoon at 1 for a special service to celebrate a drop in the truancy rate. Today’s celebratory Pep Rally is entitled, “I Belong Here”. It’s apart of a program to decrease truancy among 6th and 7th grades. About 240 students who have made the commitment to stay in school will be in attendance.

President Obama heads to Idaho to push is proposals

President Obama is taking his message of helping the middle class on the road. The Commander and Chef is due to speak in Boise, Idaho today and Kansas tomorrow. During the “State of the Union Address” he discussed making tax cuts for the middle class, paid sick leave, providing free community college education and protecting our country from terrorist.

Marion Barry’s son, turns himself into DC police

Christopher Barry is now in the custody of DC police. The Ward 8 Council Candidate and son of the late Mayor Marion Barry, faces charges of making a threat and destroying property following an incident involving a bank teller in NW, last week. Barry has apologized for his actions. He says he wants to continue his father’s legacy in Ward 8.

Growing up in a military family, Taylor Thomas lived overseas until she was 16 years old. She called places such as Great Britain and the Philippines home. For a time, Taylor even spoke with a British accent. Well now she resides in the DC area and for the past three years has worked as the news anchor for The Steve Harvey Morning Show on WHUR. Recently, Taylor has adopted the Washington Redskins as her most loved pro sports team.
