Police remain on the scene of a barricade situation in Silver Spring

Police are entering the third hour of a barricade situation near a landscaping business in Silver Spring in the 8900 Block of Brookville Road. We have reports that a shot or shots were fired. No one was injured and there’s no reports of anyone being held against their will. The suspect is reportedly talking with police.

DC leaders move forward with making marijuana legal

The DC City County is moving forward with plans to legalize small amounts of marijuana. Leaders are holding two hearings this hour to discuss how to tax and regulate marijuana. The District moves forward knowing the Republicans in Congress are still working to block the law. Congress has until the end of the month to take action against the measure that was approved by voters last November.

A new Cancer research center is coming to the Metropolitan area

Inova Hospital held a press conference to announce the begin construction of a new Cancer research facility. The 100 acre site is located in Merrifield, Virginia next to the beltway. Officials hope to have the site up and running by 2017.
