Lyft Hires Obama’s Former Senior Adviser Valerie Jarrett

Former Obama senior adviser Valerie Jarrett has just been added to the board of directors for Lyft, a transportation company.

Among the other members, Jarrett will be the only member with a government background and the second woman to join the board of directors.

Logan Green, CEO of Lyft, released an official statement on the company’s blog saying, “Valerie is one of our country’s foremost leaders and a distinguished public servant, and a natural fit for our board.”

According to Essence Magazine, Lyft appears to be following the trend of other company’s like Uber and Airbnb, to establish relationships with government agencies.

Jarrett will serve as an asset to Lyft as they work towards “[providing] upward mobility through transportation, reduce congestion, and ultimately reshape our cities,” states Green.

Many communities around the world have a growing concern that car sharing will push out regulated taxis. However, adding Jarrett to the team might help city governments to accept Lyft’s expansion.

According to CNN, there is no surprise that Lyft’s new strategy comes after its competition, Uber, has had several PR disasters such as sexual assault allegations.
