McConnell: Roy Moore Should Step Aside

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says GOP Senate candidate Roy Moore should step aside. At an event in Louisville today, the Kentucky Republican said he believed the women accusing Moore of having sexual relationships with them when they were teenagers and he was in his 30s. Multiple lawmakers have called for Moore to drop out of the Alabama Senate race, following the allegations that were first made against him in the “Washington Post.” Yesterday, Moore accused the newspaper of attacking his reputation to stop his political campaign.

Latest Freddie Gray-Related Police Trial Board Underway

A police disciplinary hearing is underway for another one of the officers involved in the arrest of Freddie Gray. Lieutenant Brian Rice is accused of violating procedures by not securing Gray in a seat belt when he suffered deadly injuries while being transported in a police van in April 2015. Rice is the highest ranking officer who was charged and then cleared in the criminal cases that followed Gray’s death. Last week, a police trial board acquitted van driver Officer Caesar Goodson Jr. of all departmental charges.

Vote Count Sets In Motion Decision To Control House Of Delegates

Local registrars and electoral boards are counting provisional ballots to determine final vote counts that could tip the balance in the House of Delegates. Those ballots could change the outcome of the 94th District race where Republican Delegate David E. Yancey holds a 13 vote lead over Democrat Shelly Simonds. In the 28th District Republican Robert M. Thomas Junior holds an 84 vote margin over Democrat Joshua Cole. Republican Delegate Timothy D. Hugo is hanging onto a 115 vote lead over Democrat Donte Tanner in the 40th District.

Major Retailers Still Hiring Seasonal Workers

Major retailers are still doing holiday hiring even though the holiday hiring season kicked off a month ago. Retailers like Toys-R-Us, JC Penny and Kohl’s are still looking for temporary help. Peter Harrison is the CEO of Snag-a-job, an agency that matches hourly workers with employers who need them. He says market conditions are positive for many seasonal workers this year, even calling the holiday hiring period a “three-month job interview” for more permanent positions.
