Multiple Deaths In Amtrak Derailment, DC Mayor To Use Dry Ice In Newest Rat Abatement Tactic.

Deaths Reported As Derailed Amtrak Train Nose-dives Onto Washington Interstate

Authorities confirm several deaths and injuries after an Amtrak train went off the tracks this morning in Washington state and nose-dived from an overpass onto vehicles below. A report says the new Amtrak Cascades Train 501 was running along at 81-miles-per-hour traveling from Seattle to Portland, Oregon. The train left the tracks at an overpass above Interstate 5. Train cars landed below causing semis and vehicles to crash. Authorities say people died inside the train, but an exact death toll has not been released. There were 78 passengers on board.

Republicans Rush To Get Final Passage On Tax Bill

Republicans may be close to final passage on their big tax bill this week. The House is expected to vote on the measure tomorrow and the Senate could follow suit Wednesday. The bill slashes the corporate tax rate and aims to reform the complex federal tax code. Republicans insist that all income classes will benefit from tax cuts but Democrats call it a big gift to the wealthy. The GOP bill is projected to add more than one trillion dollars to the deficit over a decade.

DC Mayor To Use Dry Ice In Newest Rat Abatement Tactic

Dry ice is the newest tactic DC Mayor Muriel Bowser plans to use to improve the rodent problem in the district. Fox5 reports that at 6:00 this evening the Mayor will participate in a community walk in Ward 6 where she will demonstrate the rat abatement technique. Cities such as Boston, Chicago and New York have used dry ice to reduce rat populations. The Mayor announced her intentions this summer to address the growing rodent problem, which increased 65 percent from 2015 to 2016.

Robber Steals Car, Presents

A Silver Spring man is missing his car and his family’s Christmas presents. Steven Hawkins says he was shopping at the Prince George’s Plaza mall on Saturday when he misplaced his keys. He believes a real-life Grinch found the keys, located his car, and drove off. Hawkins says there were over 700-dollars in presents in the trunk. He’s reported the missing silver 2009 Mercedes CLS 500 to the police.
