Pelosi: Conyers Must Resign

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi says Michigan Democrat John Conyers must resign. In a Capitol briefing today, Pelosi called the sexual harassment claims against Conyers serious, disappointing and very credible. The embattled Conyers has been hospitalized in Detroit for a stress-related illness. The 88-year old Conyers is the longest-serving member of the House.

Court Hearing Delayed For UMD Murder Suspect

A judge has postponed a court hearing for Sean Urbanski, who is accused in a deadly stabbing at the University of Maryland earlier this year. The hearing had been scheduled for next week. The Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office says a new date has not been set. Urbanski is accused of killing Bowie State University student Richard Collins the Third. Collins had just been commissioned as an Army 2nd Lieutenant and was just days away from graduating when he was killed.

Groundbreaking For New UMD Medical Center

Ground is being broken on a new medical center that will serve Prince George’s County. Officials at today’s event touted the new University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center, which will replace the existing Prince George’s Hospital Center with a new 600-thousand square foot facility at Largo Town Center. The project will cost more than half a billion dollars. Aside from providing health care services, county officials are hoping the project will also spur economic development in surrounding areas. Officials say the new hospital will be completed in 2021.

Redskins Clash With Cowboys On “TNF”

The Redskins are in Dallas to take on the Cowboys on “Thursday Night Football” at AT&T Stadium. Both teams are 5-and-6, two games behind Atlanta for the second NFC wild card. The ‘Skins topped the Giants 20-10 Thanksgiving night to snap a two-game skid and win for just the second time in six outings. The Cowboys beat the Redskins 33-19 in Week Eight and have won three straight in the series.

Jim Nabors Dead At 87

Actor Jim Nabors is dead at the age of 87. Nabors played cheerful Gomer Pyle on “The Andy Griffith Show” and starred in his own TV Series “Gomer Pyle” in the 1960s. He was also an accomplished singer with 28 albums, five gold and one platinum album to his credit. His deep baritone voice graced the opening ceremonies of the Indianapolis 500 for several years when he sang “Back Home Again in Indiana.” Nabors was an Alabama native whose Southern twang was evident in his Gomer Pyle sayings, such as “gawwwleee.” Nabors died early this morning in Honolulu, where he was living with his partner of 38 years Stan Cadwallader
