Prince George’s County Schools started school today…

The doors open today for Prince George’s County public schools. Schools CEO Kevin Maxwell and some state leaders are greeting students as they arrived. Parents with children in the county’s Head Start program are still optimistic about next weeks start now that millions in federal funds have been taken away. Maxwell says the board has a few weeks to appeal the decision but no matter what Head start will begin on time on the August 29th.

Obama heads to flood ravage southern Louisiana…

Southern Louisiana will be the focus of today’s Presidential visit. President Obama will meet with families affected by the historic flooding as well as meet with the Governor. Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards asked the President to delay his visit because it pulls too many resources. 3,000 people remain in shelters and 60,000 homes have been damaged or destroyed.

Black Caucus leaders prepare to meet with Gov. Hogan over disparities in medical marijuana businesses licenses …

On Thursday leaders from the Legislative Black Caucus of Md plan to meet with Governor Larry Hogan about the lack of diversity among the company’s approved to get licenses to grow and process medical marijuana. Most of the preliminary licenses were awarded to company’s owned by white men and only one was awarded to a African American led company.
