Far Right Leader Arrested On Eve Of Pro-Trump Rally

A leader of the Proud Boys arrested in DC.

The District continues to prepare this morning for pro-Trump supporters who are expected in downtown DC today and tomorrow, the largest crowds expected Wednesday in protest of the presidential election results.  City officials say they are bracing for possible violence.  Mayor Bowser has called up the National Guard, streets downtown have been closed and District officials are asking people to stay away from downtown today and tomorrow.

The far right group the Proud Boys plan to be part of the protests. One of its leaders may not. Henry “Enrique” Tarrio will appear in DC court today.  He was arrested yesterday and charged with burning and destroying a Black Lives Matter banner last month that hung at Asbury United Methodist Church.  Another banner was pulled from the Metropolitan AME Church. Both Asbury and Metropolitan are historic African American churches. Metropolitan is suing the Proud Boys, alleging the group committed an act of terror.
