Impeachment Managers Go After Trump 1st Amendment Claims

Maryland Democrat Jamie Raskin called the First Amendment defense a smokescreen.

(Washington, DC) — House impeachment managers are going after First Amendment claims in the Senate trial of former President Trump. Colorado Democrat Joe Neguse said free speech arguments are a distraction. He stressed Trump wasn’t just “some guy at a rally” offering controversial opinions. A single House article of impeachment accuses Trump of inciting the violent and deadly attack at the U.S. Capitol on January 6th. Trump headlined a huge rally near the White House before the Capitol assault. Neguse said Trump “struck a match” and aimed it at the Capitol. Maryland Democrat Jamie Raskin called the First Amendment defense a smokescreen.
