Search For New Maryland Speaker Begins

The State of Maryland will have a new Speaker of the House. Governor Larry Hogan wants lawmakers to fill the position left by the death of Speaker Michael Busch as soon as possible. The governor has asked state lawmakers to return to Annapolis on May 1st in order to elect a new House leader. Prince George’s county delegate Dereck Davis is one of the contenders for the post.

Maryland Governor Larry Hogan is calling state lawmakers back to Annapolis on May 1st to elect a new House speaker. Hogan signed an executive order today calling for a special session so the House of Delegates can elect a successor to the late Speaker Michael Busch. Three people are officially vying to succeed Busch. They include Delegate Dereck Davis of Prince George’s County, Delegate Maggie McIntosh and Delegate Adrienne Jones of Baltimore County.
