It’s Tax Day! You Have Until Midnight To File

Today’s the deadline to file or pay big fines…

That’s right procrastinators you have until midnight tonight to file your taxes without concern or fear of heavy penalties and fines. Now you can also mail in your 2018 taxes but it’s important to note that your envelope must be posted marked with today’s date.

For those of you who just can’t pull it together in time today, you have one final option. You can request a 6-month extension. It is very important to note. Just because you request an extension that does not mean that you have 6 months to pay. In fact its the contrary. The penalties for not filing are higher than not paying taxes. Pay what you can because the fines for filing late are significantly higher than not paying taxes on time penalties.

If you expect to owe taxes for one or multiple previous tax years and you have not filed nor paid the taxes due, you will most likely be subject to late filing and late payment penalties. Efile.com recommends you take the following steps as soon as possible:

Step 1: Download the respective Tax Forms for the Tax Year in Question.
Step 2: Use the Tax Calculator and Tools for the respective Tax Year.
Step 3: Complete the Income Tax Forms and Mail them to the IRS and/or State Tax Agency.
Step 4: Even if you can’t pay your taxes, follow the steps above and pay as little or as much as you can afford. That way, you will at least stop the late filing penalties, which in general are higher than the late payment penalties.
