WSSC Says It’s Safe To Drink The Water After Huge Wastewater Spill

WSSC it is safe to drink the water.

There was a strong smell coming from Fort Washington this weekend. It was not long before WSSC officials confirmed that there had been a sewage spill.

It’s estimated that more than 5 million gallons of wastewater spilled into Broad Creek on Friday. WSSC sent out a news release to inform the public that an underground pipe at the Broad Creek Wastewater Pumping Station ruptured and had been spilling wastewater for at least 12 hours into the Broad Creek.

WSSC it is safe to drink the water. Signs have been put up to make people aware of the area where the pipe buried 30 feet below the station is located. Crews have also put down lime to help with the smell in the neighborhood.
