it’s a Black History Month and we have a few events you should check out..

 

  • Starting with Fredrick Douglass Birthday events Friday and Saturday. The national parks service will celebrate Douglass’ birthday with event at the Fredrick Douglass national historic site and other location all events are free and are open to the public.

 

  • The National Archives will be celebrating black history month with special films, public programs and lectures.

 

  • In Old Town Alexandria the national register of historic places list several historic sites in Alexandria, Virginia where African Americans lived, worked and worshiped from 1790 to 1951. You can take a tour of these sites and learn more about the local history.

 

Now as for Entertainment:

 

  • Friday and Saturday you can join WHUR at Bethesda Blues and Jazz Supper Club for two nights with Jeff Bradshaw and Eric Roberson in – a lovers weekend – return of the Gentleman Concerts. Both shows start at 8pm

 

  • Friday Amel Larrieux will be at the legendary Howard Theater. For an intimate show starting at 7:30

 

  • Friday the Mid- Atlantic Jazz Festival gets under way at the Hilton Hotel in Rockville Maryland. It will be going on all weekend long.

 

  • Tonight, join Bobby Gailes at the “Making the Grade A+” Teen Summit at the Beltway Plaza Mall in Greenbelt, Md. From 6-8pm

 

  • Friday Mr. C will be hosting the Valentine’s Soul Jam starring The Stylistics, The Dramatics, New Birth and Blue Magic all at Constitution Hall at 8pm.

 

  • Saturday you can Join Triscina Grey at Rosendorf Evans Fur Sale going on at the Doubletree hotel in Largo Maryland. She will be there from noon to 3pm.

 

  • Triscina Grey will be hosting “Love Languages” a Valentine’s Day affair with Brian Lenair and Kenny Allen at the Hyatt Place Hotel at 400 E St. SW Washington DC.

 

  • Saturday The Mike Epps: “Don’t Take it Personal” tour will be in DC for two show Saturday night one at 7pm and another at 10pm. Now due to popular demand, Mike Epps has added a third show Monday Night at 7pm and is bringing WHUR’s very own Stress Reliever, George Wilborn to perform.

 

  • Sunday you can enjoy the Valentines Love Jam at Show Place Arena. Staring Bobby Brown, Mint Condition, Ginuwine and 112. On Valentines Day at 7:30
