Area Student on Spring Break Shot, Killed During Music Video Filming

An 18-year-old college student, home for spring break, was shot and killed in northeast Washington Monday night during the filming of a music video.

Ayana McAllister, 18, of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, died around 8:40pm. Her friend was also shot but suffered non-life-threatening injuries, the Metropolitan Police Department reports.

McAllister was a student at Saint Augustine’s University in Raleigh, North Carolina. The school shared their condolences with the victim’s family.

The victim’s father, Anthony McAllister, said Ayanna was just an innocent bystander watching the filming of a video when someone pulled out a gun and began shooting. He said his daughter was simply at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Police have not released any further info about the gunman or possible motive.

We send out deepest condolences to the McAllister family.
