The MTV Movie & TV Awards was last night and the young stars showed out!

The show, hosted by Tiffany Haddish, opened with Haddish in an extremely hilarious Black Panther skit featuring her Girls Trip costars Queen Latifah and Jada Pinkett-Smith.

This year’s awards had an extraordinarily young feel to the show as many of the performers and presenters were many of the teens and younger stars on new popular TV shows and movies. Presenters included Zendaya and Yara Shahidi. Beyonce’s proteges, Chloe x Halle stunned in a matching white bodysuit as they performed two songs off their recent EP at the show: Warrior, and the title track, The Kids are Alright.

Stranger Things, Riverdale, and Black Panther seemed to sweep the awards show with nominations in almost every category. Black Panther lead the films with seven nominations and took home four awards including the award for Best Movie. The Stranger Things kids took home awards in four of the six nominations for the show.

Howard Alumnus, Chadwick Boseman, made quite the statement by giving his award for Best Hero to ‘Waffle House Hero,’ James Shaw Jr. The Black Panther actor brought the TSU alumnus on stage to present him with the popcorn award.

“Receiving an award for playing a superhero is amazing, but it’s even greater to acknowledge the heroes that we have in real life.”

Chris Pratt and Lena Waithe were guarantees to take home an award as they were honored at this year’s show. The Jurassic World star was given the Generation Award. Waithe was presented the Trailblazer award.
