Denzel Washington Has More Oscar Nominations Than Any Other Black Actor In History


Tuesday Denzel Washington’s earned an Oscar nomination for Best Actor for his role in “Fences.” This makes the 62-year-old actor the only black actor to land seven Oscar nominations.

Morgan Freeman follows closely behind with five Oscar nods.

Washington has been nominated for the following films:

Best Performance by Actor in a Leading Role, “Flight,” 2013
Best Actor in a Leading Role, “Training Day,” 2002 (Win)
Best Actor in a Leading Role, “The Hurricane,” 2000
Best Actor in a Leading Role, “Malcolm X”, 1993
Best Actor in a Supporting Role, “Glory,” 1990 (Win)
Best Actor in a Supporting Role, “Cry Freedom,” 1988
