Fidget Spinners Are Catching Fire

Parents, listen up! That fidget spinner you just bought your kid could be hazardous, even deadly. What are fidget spinners exactly?

Lifescience.com reports, “‘Fidget spinners’ are small, ball-bearing devices that the user can rotate between his or her fingers. The momentum of the toy provides a pleasing sensory experience, according to user reviews, while the challenge of tossing, transferring and twirling the spinners has spawned an entire universe of instructional YouTube videos.”

Recently, there have been several reports of the popular toy catching fire. So far this issue has only been linked to with Bluetooth capable devices and spinners that light up.

Reports indicate that as the devices are charging, they can overheat and catch fire. The Consumer Product Safety Commission are currently investigating the claims.

The gadgets have been marketed as an antidote for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, anxiety and autism.
