FREE Family-Friendly Summer Fun in the District

It’s officially SUMMER and while enjoying the weather is free, some of the fun events that summer brings are too expensive for everyone to enjoy. WHUR is bringing you all the information on FREE and FUN summer events taking place right here in D.C.

Truckeroo Picnics

August 18th, September 22nd, more to be determined

Truckeroo brings nearly two dozen food trucks to the park one Friday of each month from May to October. The food trucks bring a large variety of food as well, from sweets to international food. So, while it may cost to eat, it’s FREE to picnic and socialize with the bustling Truckeroo crowd on a sunny Friday afternoon. There are picnic tables and shade to sit back, relax and enjoy your meal.

FREE concerts at the New DC Wharf
Gangplank Marina Park
Every Thursday this summer from 6:30pm to 8:30pm

The District Wharf will be hosting free live music concerts all summer. Listeners can enjoy popular 80’s hits from The Reflex. There will be a bar on-site for refreshments. For more details, see here.

Outdoor Movie Nights
Canal Park, Walter Pierce Park, Georgetown Waterfront Park, Farragut Square Park, NoMa Junction at Storey Park, and more

Smithsonian Folklife Festival: Peru Pachamama
National Mall
June 24-28 and July 1-5

Cooks, potters, mask makers, dancers, musicians and fisherman gather to share their culture, that of traditional Peruvians, with the civilians of D.C.

Vietnam’s Cerarmics: Depth and Diversity

July 11th

A 23-piece art show consisting of all kinds of Vietnamese art, pottery, ceramics, etc.

There are also more museum, film, festival, and concert activities beyond your imagination taking place this summer in the D.C., Maryland and Virginia area that won’t hurt your pockets.
