Gregg Leakes Cancer Update; Says He’s In Need Of Prayers

Contributed by Taylor Ardrey

Prayers are in order for Gregg Leakes from Real Housewives of Atlanta as he has been battling stage three colon cancer since earlier this year.

According to People, after opposing chemotherapy as a treatment option, Leakes along with his wife, NeNe Leakes, visited the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center for testing.

Against the doctor’s orders, the Leakes are seeking different treatment methods beside chemotherapy.

“Obviously we hear all the reports of people doing chemo and being very sick,” NeNe, 50, revealed. “So he feels like if there’s any other options that can take, I’d rather take those options and let chemo sit on the back burner for now.”

Although after some tests, doctors did not find cancer in his body, they still recommended chemotherapy to ensure the cancer will not return. Despite their efforts, Leakes sits well with his decision.

He told People, “I’m deciding to really take my life and use it as a mouthpiece for other people,” he said. “I just want to use my life in a way to help someone. So I can say I’m Gregg Leakes and I have cancer, but I will be a survivor.”

Gregg Leakes is trying to remain positive and in high spirits. He went on Instagram to update and thank his supporters:

According to an article at the National Center for Biotechnology Information, African Americans continue to have the worst survival of any racial group for colon cancer.13 According to the SEER database, the 5-year relative survival for CRC between 2003 and 2009 was 57.3% for African Americans and 67% for their white counterparts. African-American men had the lowest survival rate for all stages of CRC.
