After the tragic death Jemel Roberson, a security guard fatally shot by a Chicago police officer while trying to detain a suspected gunman, rapper Kanye West donated $150,000 to the Roberson’s family.

On November 11th, Roberson was working at Manny’s Blue Room in Robbins, Illinois when a fight between several men broke out. According to Sam Randall, a Cook County Sheriff’s Office spokesman, one of the men fired shots inside the bar which caused Roberson to apprehend him.

While Roberson was apprehending the gunman outside and waiting for police backup, an officer from Midlothian, Illinois arrived and fired shots at Roberson. The officer fatally shot him.

West donated the $150,000 to the GoFundMe Page the Roberson’s family created to raise money for Jemel’s funeral, according to USA Today.

The GoFundMe Page raised a total of $310,000 as of Monday morning, which was more than double the family’s original goal of $150,000.

Back in October the “Through The Wire” rapper exclaimed he’s distancing himself from politics due to word that spread that he was involved with designing apparel for a movement that encourages black voters to stop supporting Democratic candidates, which was later revealed to be untrue.

While he has distanced himself since then, West has still continued to donate to several causes.

Along with donating to the Roberson’s family GoFundMe page, he donated $126,460 to Amara Enyia. Amara Enyia is currently a left-leaning candidate in the run for mayor of the rapper’s hometown Chicago.
