LeBron James is reportedly considering purchasing an NBA team or possibly an NFL team after retiring from the league himself.

Long-time friend and business partner Maverick Carter tells Variety, that LeBron’s ownership of a professional sports team could very well become a possibility when the new Los Angeles Laker finally decides to stop playing.

“He does like football and he’s looked at football ownership, so he’ll be owning a basketball team and running it,” Carter said.

James already owns a 2% stake in England’s Liverpool soccer club. His other recent investments include Beats by Dre and the Blaze Pizza chain.

Considering his most recent $154 million deal with the Lakers, James’ net worth now equals $400 million. According to Forbes, the cost of ownership for the average NBA team is $509 million. The typical NFL franchise today costs around $1 billion. However, there are some cheaper teams valued around $600 -$800 million.

Other black celebrities who’ve dabbled in sports team ownership include Jay-Z, who briefly owned a small stake in the Brooklyn Nets until he relinquished his role to pursue his sports agency, RocNation. Will and Jada Pinkett Smith owned a minority stake in the Philadelphia 76ers. Usher even owned a percentage of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
