Miss DC Crowned Miss USA 2017

Miss District of Columbia Kára McCullough was crowned Miss USA 2017 Sunday evening at the annual beauty pageant broadcasted live in Las Vegas. She competed against 50 other contestants and wowed judges with her beauty, bikini, talents and intelligence.

Kára McCullough is a 25-year-old scientist and works at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. She studied nuclear chemistry at South Carolina State University.

McCullough hosts a community outreach program that helps children learn about science. She added that she hopes to inspire women who are interested in technology, engineering and mathematics fields.

“If you would have been my science teacher, I would have paid more attention in class!” said actor and host Terrence J.

Terrence J and Dancing With the Stars’ Julianne Hough hosted the show. The judges’ panel included Halima Aden, Carson Kressley, Brooke Lee, Nancy Lublin, Jeannie Mai and Janet Mock. Ashley Graham served as the backstage host.
