86 NYC Residents Infected With The Zika Virus

According to NYC’s Health Department 86 NYC residents have been infected with the Zika Virus, including 14 pregnant women. While it’s still unknown whether or not the women’s unborn babies have been affected, the Health Department’s spokesperson vows they will closely monitor the pregnant women for the duration of their pregnancy.

The NY Post is reporting that every NYC victim contracted the mosquito-borne virus after visiting other Zika-plagued countries, mostly in Central and South America. There are a total of 152 reported cases statewide including 50 males and 102 females, 23 of them pregnant.

“The Zika virus is a disease of significant public health concern, with the greatest concern being the risk to the exposed fetus,” a Health Department spokesperson told the NY Post.
