President Barack Obama Makes Surprise Visit To Area School

Former President Barack Obama made a surprise visit to McKinley Tech High School Friday. The purpose of the visit was to “talk to students about their life goals, pursuing higher education, and giving back to their communities,” Obama spokesman Kevin Lewis said.  Kids were in for a treat when Barack Obama entered the room as the surprise career counselor.

Barack Obama shared a snippet of his talk via his Instagram page:

Barack Obama shared with the students,

“One of the things I did throughout my presidency was I’d meet with groups of young people everywhere I went, whether it was here in the United States or when I was traveling overseas, just to kind of hear from them, find out what they were interested in, because I do believe that most of the problems that we have are going to be solved by you.”

Obama spokesman Kevin Lewis shared more of the conversation on his Twitter page:

McKinley Tech participates in D.C.’s Empowering Men of Color program, launched by the public school system in 2015.
