Senate Confirms Ben Carson as Housing Secretary

Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson was confirmed Thursday to join Donald Trump‘s Cabinet as housing secretary.

51 Republicans, six Democrats and one Independent voted in favor of Carson to lead Housing and Urban Development. Carson has no experience in housing policy.

Carson will lead an agency that employs over 8,300 people and has a budget of $47 billion. The department provides aid to low-income families through public housing and vouchers. The department also enforces fair housing laws.

President Trump told reporters, “We’re going to do great things in our African-American communities.”
