As first reported by Axios, Donald Trump has commuted the sentence of non-violent drug offender Alice Johnson, following meeting with Kim Kardashian-West last week.

This announcement comes just off the heels of Dinesh D’Souza’s unexpected pardon just last week. The conservative pundit pleaded guilty to violating federal campaign finance laws in 2014. The President is reportedly still considering granting a pardon to celebrity Martha Stewart and a commutation for former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

Alice Marie Johnson, 63, was convicted on drug trafficking charges and sentenced to life in 1996. She argues that she became involved with the drug conspiracy after struggling to find another job to support her family. After a video published by online outlet mic.com, Kim Kardashian-West began to advocate for her via social media.

Miss Alice is serving life for a nonviolent offense

Alice Marie Johnson has been in prison for 21 years for a first-time, nonviolent drug offense. Does this grandmother really deserve a life sentence without parole?

Upon news of Johnson’s commutation, Kardashian-West took to twitter to express her excitement.

In their statement, the White House describes Johnson as a “model prisoner” stating, “Ms. Johnson has accepted responsibility for her past behavior and has been a model prisoner over the past two decades. Despite receiving a life sentence, Alice worked hard to rehabilitate herself in prison, and act as a mentor to her fellow inmates.”
