DC Police Arrest Suspect In Infant Shooting

A 39-year-old man is under arrest for a DC shooting that left an infant wounded. Authorities say Derrick Watson got into a dispute with two other men on July 10th in the 13-hundred block of “I” Street, NE. Weapons were drawn, and gunshots rang out. One-year-old Jeremiah White was hit by stray gunfire and had to undergo emergency surgery. He was released the next day. Police are still searching for the two other suspects, one of whom is identified as 27-year-old Saheed Washington Sulu.

Middle School Principal Accused Of Smacking Girl’s Rear

A former principal at an Alexandria middle school is accused of smacking the rear-end of a student. Fairfax County Police say Terrence Yarborough hit the 12-year-old girl in the buttocks on April 4th when she refused to pick something off the floor of the cafeteria. Carl Sandburg Middle School students who witnessed the incident told a teacher, and an investigation was launched. Yarborough was placed on administrative leave, and arrested last week for misdemeanor assault and battery.

New Senate GOP Plan To Repeal Obamacare Already In Doubt

A new Senate GOP plan to repeal Obamacare and replace it later is already running into problems as some Republicans say they will not support it. Maine Republican Susan Collins said at the Capitol today that the plan would provoke chaos in health insurance markets and said she would vote no. West Virginia Republican Shelly Moore Capito said she would not vote to repeal Obamacare without a replacement plan. This comes following the collapse of the revised Republican healthcare bill. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is looking to vote to repeal Obamacare with a two-year phaseout plan.

Jury Recommends 137 Years-Plus In Prison For Wheel Stealer

A 38-year-old man faces more than a century in prison for stealing tires and rims from Loudoun County residents. A jury found Jason Brooks guilty last week on six counts of grand larceny, destruction of property, and tampering with an automobile. They recommended a sentence of over 137 years in prison from the crimes. Prosecutors say Brooks took the wheels right off of people’s vehicles multiple times, often leaving the cars sitting on cinder blocks. He faces final sentencing in October, and he faces identical charges in Fairfax County, Prince William County, and New Jersey.
