A DC native who became a pioneer in the field of jurisprudence is dead. The body of Judge Sheila Abdus-Salaam was discovered along the Hudson River in Manhattan yesterday. The 65-year-old was the first Muslim woman to become an American judge. She was eventually appointed to a seat on the New York State Court of Appeals. Authorities say there are no signs of trauma on her body and no foul play is suspected.

Thousands of patients who use a local VA hospital are facing unnecessary danger. That’s the conclusion of a report released yesterday by federal investigators. The report counts about 200 incidents in the last three years that it calls ‘serious and troubling’ like running out of supplies, using expired equipment in surgery and not following surgical procedures. The VA announced yesterday it has relieved the director of the center of his duties and appointed an acting director.
